Music

At the turn of the 20th century in Argentina, Tango music and dance represented a popular phenomena much like rap and hip hop today. That popularity inspired lyricists, composers, bandleaders, musicians and singers to produce music expressly for tango dancing, which translated to discography of over _____ recorded songs. Below you’ll find a playlists to familiarize yourself with tango music from La Guardia Nueva (the new guard) 1925-1935 and the Golden Age (1935 to 1955).  They are grouped by tango, milonga and vals (waltz), the three primary rhythms in tango music.  Note: these playlists are not meant to be exhaustive nor definitive with respect to key protagonists in the development of tango.
